It seems as if tensions between Umkhonto WeSizwe Party (MK) and African National Congress (ANC) are about to get nasty after one prominent leader died inside ashack.
Morgan Mbili (45) from Cato Crest in Mayville, outside Durban in KwaZulu Natal, died inside his shack in the wee hours of Tuesday. Mbili was a formidable force of the ANC in Mayville before he joined MK this year. MK Interim leader Thami Mkhize said that they want answers on what really happened to Mbili to die inside his burning shack. "We suspect that this was not an ordinary incident. On the night of the incident we were loadshed in our area. This is why we have this suspicion that Mbili might have been locked inside his shack before they set him alight. People residing in the area told us that heard Mbili screaming but nobody came through."
"Before Mbili joined Umkhonto, there were people in our area who were not happy about it. They made it known that they were not happy about his decision to join MK. They started fighting with him indirectly because he was one of the leaders in the area. Without mentioning names but they were from his previous party and we plead with the police to investigate this matter thoroughly," he said. ANC Ward Councillor Simphiwe Luluza Khanyile said that he was aware about the matter but could not provide more details on it. "The family and other comrades informed me about the matter but I don't have more information on it. I'm waiting for a full report from the police," he said. KZN SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, confirmed the incident. "Police are investigating a matter where a man died inside a burning shack on Tuesday," she said.
Meanwhile, On Monday KZN police arrested an MK member who wanted to shoot ANC volunteers on Saturday. The group was campaigning door to door in Umlazi when they met with the MK member who took out his gun pointed it at them.
