Two cash-in-transit suspects were shot and killed during a shootout with police on Saturday morning in Centurion, Pretoria after a foiled robbery. Police Minister Bheki Cele revealed this during a media briefing on the arrest of Facebook rapist Thabo Bester and Dr Nandipha Magudumane in Tanzania. According to Cele, the police received information about the suspects as they were booking hotel rooms preparing for the heist.
RAN OUT OF LUCK
Cele said the multidisciplinary team was following up on intelligence driven information when they intercepted a group of armed suspects along John Vorster road in Centurion. "They were booking into a hotel in Menlyn, but said it was too cheap for them. They were followed by police where they were intercepted in Centurion. There was an exchange of fire, " Cele said. He added that the two dead suspects were found with three AK47s inside a BMW while two more escaped in a Jeep Cherokee.
ELEVEN SUSPECTS KILLED IN TWO DAYS
On Thursday, nine CIT suspects who were allegedly on their way to rob a cash van were killed in a shootout with police in Sebokeng. This makes the total number of suspects killed to 11 since Thursday in Gauteng alone. "Our police are working these days, there is no place for criminals on our streets," Cele said. On Wednesday two bystanders were shot and killed while a security guard was injured during a CIT heist in Ekurhuleni.
