TV star falls on hard times as bank threatens to auction his home

Television presenter Scoop Makhathini is staring homelessness in the eye as a leading bank is gunning for his home, as he has failed to keep up with payments. Zimoja can reveal that the bank is once again on the star's throat attempting to repossess and auction his home as he failed to keep up with home loan repayments for his house in Westdene, Johannesburg.

OWING CLOSE TO R900K

The former The Real Goboza, Street Journal, Top Shayela and V-Entertainment host currently owes the bank almost R900K. This is not the first time the bank and Ngwekazi face off in court as he was dragged to the same court in 2015 on numerous occasions for failing to pay his bond payments of just over R7000 a month.   According to a court application which Zimoja has seen, the star, whose real name is Siyabonga Ngwekazi, was served with summons to rectify arrears on his repayment in August 2019.
"The respondent has not delivered a notice of intention to defend, nor did he file a plea... In the event that there is no bid, and subject to Rule 46A(9)(d) and (e), the applicant may immediately proceed to put the property up for auction again and sell without a reserve price. Alternatively if a bid is made, which is less than the reserve, and provisionally accepted, that the applicant may approach this honourable court on these papers, duly, supplemented, to reconsider the preliminary purchase price obtained," the court documents read.

83 CALLS TO DISCUSS OPTIONS

After he was served with the summons on email, Ngwekazi indicated his intention to make a payment arrangement with the bank in August 2019 but he failed to provide documents which were needed by the bank to proceed with it. The court documents state that the television producer fell behind with his bond payments for the first time in 2012.  "The applicant placed 83 telephone calls to the respondent to discuss options to bring the respondent's arrears under the loan agreement up to date, the attorney (on instructions from the applicant) attempted to reach a payment agreement with the applicant on numerous occasions, without success," the court documents added.  The bank also stated that it has sent the star nine text messages and two emails appealing to Ngwekazi to bring his account up to date to no avail before approaching the court.  Ngwekazi is also a co-director in TV production company Parental Advisory Productions which is behind the hit shows Forever Young and MoLove. Zimoja called and WhatsApped Ngwekazi and at the time of publishing, he did not respond to the query.
