NO MORE NINE LIVES
Mabuza whose political life has been compared to that of a cat and described to have nine lives declined to contest for the second term as the party's deputy president in December during the ANC's 55th National Conference that was held in Nasrec in Johannesburg. He wrotea letter to president Cyril Ramaphosa requesting to step down. Mabuza confirmed the news of him stepping down during the a family funeral that was held in Mpumalanga where he told congregants that he had informed Ramaphosa that he has resigned as the Deputy President of South Africa.
STEPPING DOWN
He said, "I am making a space for the one elected at the conference because I can see he is also making a few moves. So now I am also in a rush to give them space. I spoke to the president and told him I would step down. The president will say that Mabuza has resigned. He and I had an agreement. I said I would respect the president until I leave and I think those left will continue to respect him." Attempts to get comment from the ANC National Spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu proved fruitless as she did not answer our calls and WhatsApp messages.
