Umkhokha The Curse actor Kini Shandu will be hosting the fifth instalment of the Sebenza Women’s Awards at the Durban’s International Convention Centre (ICC) in KwaZulu Natal tonight.

DEDICATED TO WOMEN

The awards which he founded are solely dedicated to women who are doing wonderful things in their communities. Actress Khosi Thwala, Angel Zuma and Thulani Thabethe will be the hosts at the event.

Speaking to ZiMoja, the former Daily Thetha and ex Gagasi FM radio presenter turned businessman said the Sebenza Women’s Awards will celebrate its fifth anniversary in style tonight and it will be hosted at a bigger venue, the ICC.

"This has been a remarkable journey with ups and downs. When I started these Awards four years ago, I had just left my job at Gagasi FM as a radio presenter and joined Daily Thetha. It wasn’t easy as I had to believe in my project in celebrating women who are working wonders in our society," he said.

AWARDS INSPIRATION

Kini said that the awards were inspired by his late mother and his sisters. "I was lucky enough that after my mother passed away, my older sister took care of me as if I was his own son instead of his brother. I’m here today because of their upbringing and that is why I will forever cherish and respect women. These awards are dedicated to all the women in South Africa. They are created to inspire each and every women out there that they can be anything they want to be in life and that they can do so without relying on men," he said.

Some prominent women nominated in the entertainment industry are Vuma FM radio presenter Jacinta Ngobese, influencer Ncumisa Ndelu of Stockpiling fame, actresses Baby Cele, Deli Malinga, Sine Nene, Glam Dlozi to mention a few.

People attending the event must expect performances Maskandi singer Limit, singer and composure Mbuso Khoza and Ijadu Lase Afrika.
