The ANC has reclaimed the City of Johannesburg when ANC Johannesburg Chair Dada Morero was elected mayor after the DA's Mpho Phalatse was booted out. This was through a motion of no confidence supported by the ruling party. Earlier on Friday Phalatse headed to court in attempt to halt the special sitting of council which saw her out office. Unfortunately her plea was struck off the court roll and her fate was in the hands of opposition parties, which then saw the mighty Joburg returning to the ANC
NEW SPEAKER CHANGES THINGS AROUND
COPE's Colleen Makhubela's rise to power as the Speaker of Council threatened Phalatse's position. Makhubela has the support of the ANC, EFF, Patriotic Alliance as well as other smaller opposition parties. This move was a clear indication that things were about to take a different turn. Phalatse was ousted by 139 councillors voting in support of her removal.
AN UNHAPPY ENDING FOR PHALATSE
?
Phalatse recorded a video saying that the fight was not over. She thanked the residents of the City of Joburg for their support and said this was a sad time. "Thank you for your prayers, I know so many people are praying for me and I appreciate you all. What happened today was an injustice and it was unlawful. We believe in our justice system will keep fighting because we can't leave our city in the hands of corrupt officials." she said.
