The community of Ulundi is living in fear after three lions escaped from Ndumo Game Reserve on Wednesday night.
ESCAPED LIONS
The three lions which are now being hunted by the KwaZulu Natal Ezemvelo Wild Life are said to have escaped from Mfolozi-Hluhluwe Game Park.
The communities that are living in fear are Basamlilo, Yanguye and Dumaneni in the northern coast of KZN.
Two community leaders that spoke to Zimoja said that they now fear to go and collect their cattles because of the warning from the local cops.
VIGILANT
"We were told to be vigilant and always walking in groups because it is the lions nature not to attack when people are walking in groups. I don?t know how am I suppose to collect my cattles as they will become the meal for the lions. The last time a lion escaped from the park, some residents shot it as it was feeding itself with our cattles," said Babu Manzini from Yanguye.
Another resident who stays near the park, Sthembile Mahaye said that since Thursday they decider to form a group as parents to accompany kids to school.
"When these wild animals are on the loose, people?s lives are at stake. We cannot risk the lives of our kids and that is why the police have warned people not to be everywhere as they are still searching for the three lions. Last year they fed when two escaped from the park. They fed themselves in our cattle. Luckily the people from Ezemvelo Wild Life managed to capture before they attacked people?s," he said.
