Terry Pheto's NLC fraud house finally sold

Terry Pheto's home has been sold for R3.9 million

The Joburg North home worth R3.9 million which actress and businesswoman Terry Pheto bought using fraudulent money from the National Lotteries Fund has finally been sold.

SOLD?

The auctioneer, Graham Renfrew from Asset Auctions says the home has been sold to an unnamed businessman. "We cannot disclose the name of the buyer, unfortunately," he tells ZiMoja. "We received offers from R1.7 million and the final offer was R3.9 million." The house was on auction for weeks after being obtained by the National Prosecuting Authority's Asset Forfeiture Unit.

IMPLICATED IN MORE SCANDALS?

Terry was recently implicated in yet another lottery scandal with former National Lottery COO Philemon Letwaba and his wife after he allegedly paid money meant for youth development in their business accounts. Terry allegedly spent the money on her lavish lifestyle and appearing as a successful actress. Terry is one of the local celebrities who was fingered in the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) fraud. Kwaito legend Arthur Mafokate, TV personality Carol Bouwer and Tsotsi star Presley Chweneyagae were fingered as some of the people who benefitted illegally from the NLC.

MONEY HEIST?

According to reports, Terry illegally received R1 million from the money meant to host a youth awards ceremony. The money, which was from a R10 million grant, was paid to Sunguti Projects, of which Terry Pheto, the actress known for her role in Tsotsi and The Bold and the Beautiful ,is the sole director. The R10 million grant was paid to a non-profit company that had nothing to do with the youth awards event. The event was instead funded by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) but never happened. She also received millions from the recipient of an unrelated grant to help build her R4 million luxury home in Bryanston, Johannesburg. The house, which was paid for in cash, was frozen and put on auction but failed to attract any buyers when it came up for auction earlier this month.
