National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has appointed a special task team made up of Gauteng and Free State police and crime intelligence to investigate the prison escape of convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester.
PROBING WHO THE BURNT BODY BELONGS TO
Lieutenant-General Masemola said they are also probing who the person found burnt in Bester's cell was. "We have registered two cases, one of the escape and the other one murder of the person found badly burnt in Bester's cell. For now, the nation must take note we are hard at work regarding the case," Masemola added.
CONSEQUENCES FOR THOSE INVOLVED
After issuing a statement about Bester's escape, the department of Correctional Services emphasised that whoever was involved in the escape would face serious consequences. "The department will announce the findings of its internal investigation, which ran parallel to a still ongoing police probe. The department's investigation concluded that Bester escaped from lawful custody on May 3, 2022. Critical at this stage is for Bester to be found. DCS is appealing to the public to assist with any information that may lead to the arrest of Bester to contact the police, "said the Department's Spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo.
WHISTLEBLOWER IN HIDING
According to City Press, Dr Nandipha Magudumana 's brother who blew the whistle on Bester, has reportedly gone into hiding after receiving numerous threatening phone calls. Nkosinathi Sekeleni exposed Bester's relationship with celebrity doctor Nandipha Magudumana as the country learnt recently that the convicted rapist and murderer is still alive. "We are practically homeless, and I am in hiding. I fear for my life because of the articles that were written putting me at the centre for exposing my sister. I don't know what dots to connect. I don't know which high ranking officials are involved in this case and it can come back and bite me," Sekeleni told the publication.
