Fans were left high and dry after former Vuzu presenter Siyabonga Ngwekazi arrived late for an MC gig and earlier had missed rehearsals. It turns out that all the former TV presenter wanted was a holiday by the beach in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape.
MINDING HIS OWN BUSINESS
He was announced as one of the MCs alongside music icon Lira but Scoop Makhathini, as he is affectionately known, decided to go about his own business than be where he was booked at the 3rd Annual Eastern Cape Fashion Week. The organiser and founder of Eastern Cape Fashion Week, Mac Mahambehlala, said he has never felt so disrespected and has never been exposed to such level of unprofessionalism. Speaking to ZiMoja, he confirmed that Scoop was paid, and his flights were booked. Instead, he decided to switch off his phone while a driver was waiting for him at the airport. "We tried calling him until his phone went off. I have never seen anything like that," he added.
HIS PHONE WAS OFF
According to Mahambehlala, Scoop, who hails from Gqeberha, eventually showed up hours later after the rehearsals. He said there was no ways he was going to allow him to MC his event after he missed rehearsals. "There was no way he was going to be part of the event after he missed rehearsals. It is unprofessional and unfair to those who were present at rehearsals. As a professional we expected him to be on time," he said. Asked if he thought Scoop went home to Motherwell while they waited for him to show up at the rehearsals, he said: "We don’t know, and frankly we don’t care. Everything was arranged on time for him. The shuttle driver was at the airport on time. The hotel was booked, and he was paid." Asked if he wanted his money back, Mahambehlala said he still has to meet with his team so they can talk about a way forward as the event only happened on Saturday. "We don’t know yet," he said.
A BILLBOARD FEATURING HIM
According to a source, the event organisers went all out and even invested in a billboard, which can be seen as you enter and leave the airport. "For crying out loud, Siya also drove past that billboard. That is how much they spent on marketing the gig. He needs to grow up," added the source. Another informant said Scoop was included in the event line-up because he is from the area. "Siya is one of the creatives from Gqeberha who have made it in the fashion and TV industry. His fans looked forward to seeing him, but he decided to disappoint them," added the source. Siya’s phone rang unanswered when called for comment.
