Singer Rethabile Khumalo finally speaks about being poisoned

Winnie Khumalo and Rethabile say they are happy with her recovery progress

Pop singer and Amapiano star Rethabile Khumalo’s is on the mend after she was allegedly poisoned. The Umjolo hitmaker went live on Instagram to update her fans that she is recovering.

THE POISONING


On June 28, Rethabile’s musician mother, Winnie Khumalo, took to Instagram to post: "So I thought I would keep quiet until my daughter was okay. She is fighting for her life. She was poisoned by a so-called friend," Winnie wrote. She also said that Rethabile’s seven-month-old son Culo was also admitted after he sucked poison from his mother when being breast-fed. Rethabile spent several days in the hospital in a critical condition and underwent several surgeries. She was discharged from the hospital but was re-admitted a week ago as her health deteriorated. During the live chat, where she was flanked by her mother Winnie of Let Me Live My Life fame. The Khumalos said they were happy with her progress. Rethabile, who showed her fans the drip she while still in a hospital bed, said she is looking forward to promoting her music. "I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your prayers while I am in the hospital," she said.


NO CRIMINAL CASE YET


One of the fans asked the mother and daughter team if they had already opened a criminal case against the friend who allegedly poisoned Rethabile but Winnie said Rethabile said they have not opened a case yet as they would not find time to attend the court case since she is still in the hospital. "Rethabile thought she had friends, but no. This is the time when she will realise that she doesn’t have many friends but people who know her. This place (the hospital) has opened her eyes," said Winnie. They were also grateful to friends who have been calling Rethabile and wishing her well. The list of well-wishers includes house maestros DJ Ganyani, DJ Fresh, Ebony Ngcobo and her daughter Ntombee, Bongi Mlothswa and Khanyo Maphumulo, amongst others. Winnie and Rethabile also updated their fans and said her song, Ntyilo Ntyilo, featuring Master KG, has reached platinum status and her new songs Egalile and Islonda were also doing well on the online streaming.
