Shot and killed for breaking a TV

An argument between Bonginkosi and his lover ended with them both dead

Every time they fought, Bonginkosi Mlotshwa's girlfriend would break their TV. Bonginkosi Mlotshwa would then go to the parents' house of his girlfriend and take their TV. But the couple's fight on Friday where yet another TV was allegedly broken by Nonhlanhla Mbatha took an ugly turn.

Nonhlanhla Mbatha is said to have been killed by her lover over a broken TV

CHEATING ALLEGATIONS

According to relatives who spoke to ZiMoja on condition of anonymity, Bonginkosi and Nonhlanhla fought on Friday after they accused each other of cheating. Nonhlanhla allegedly broke another TV out of anger. "This angered Bonginkosi, who decided to go to Nonhlanhla's house and took their family TV to replace the one that was broken by his sweetheart. It is not clear why Bonginkosi ended up killing Nonhlanhla because they had given him the TV," said the source.

?LEAVE

They said that when Bonginkosi was about to leave,  Nonhlanhla followed him and that is when he shot her. "I don't know what pushed Bonginkosi to kill the mother of his three children because the Nonhlanhla's family had given him the TV to avoid more drama between them. Bonginkosi also shot himself  in the head," the source said.

INCIDENT

Nonhlanhla's brother, Mxolisi, confirmed the incident saying that they tried to separate them but Bonginkosi was very angry. "He wanted to get inside the room and we reprimanded him from doing that, telling him that he must leave the TV in the living room and we will bring him another TV in the morning. He refused and instead the argument between and Nonhlanhla escalated. We gave him the TV and Nonhlanhla followed him to his car. Within minutes we heard gunshots and we found them both dead outside," he said.

DEMAND

Mxolisi said that it was not the first time for Mlotshwa to come and demand a TV from their family home as she had broken another TV before. KZN SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident. "The police in Osizweni are investigating cases of murder and inquest after two bodies were found with gunshot wounds at Osizweni. It is alleged that on 9 March 2023, a 33-year-old woman was allegedly shot and killed by a suspect known to her following an argument. The body of the suspect was also found with a gunshot wound. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated," she said.
