They were still married when Orlando Pirates football goalie Senzo Meyiwa was shot and killed at the home of his girlfriend and singer Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus, Johannesburg.
Mandisa Mkhize and Senzo Meyiwa's marriage was, however, slowly drawing to an end as Kelly had infiltrated it and they were expecting a child
The Umlazi star was gunned down in the presence of Kelly's mother Ntombi Khumalo, Zandi, and his friends Tumelo Madlala, Mthokozisi Thwala, and Longwe Twala, who was dating Zandie Khumalo at the time.
MANDISA MOVES ON?
When Senzo died in 2014, he was in the process of building a home for his children in the south of Durban but died before he could finish. The widow of Senzo has moved on and according to close friends, has found a home for her children and started dating again.
"She has done well by staying away from the whole case. Mandisa never loved attention in the first place,' says a close friend.
"Mandisa is a lady. She has found a home for her kids. They are safe and happy. She's dating a wealthy man and taking care of her kids. That's all she cares about. She's not interested in doing any media interviews. The whole thing was hurtful for her and her kids.'
Senzo Meyiwa's brother Sifiso says the former Bafana Bafana player loved his children and wanted the best for him.
"He would have done anything for his kids,' he says.
"He wanted to provide for his family and kids. No one would have convinced him not to take care of her kids. I know his kids are in the right hands with Mandisa.'
Sifiso did not wish to elaborate any further on his children and widow.
?MANDISA'S BOOK?
In 2020, Sabelo Mandlanzi published a tell-all book titled 'Decoding 666_9: The Inexplicable life of Senzo Meyiwa.' The book is a riveting replay of Senzo's actions from all angles; with no intention to make him an angel.
In one chapter, Mandisa details her relationship with the late football player and how Senzo was warned about getting into a relationship with Bazokhuluma singer Kelly Khumalo. She also shares how Senzo cheated with her friend, which drove her to consider suicide.
Another friend adds, "That's old news.'
"She's done so well for herself. She's into business and created her own life away from the drama and away from everything,' she says.
"All she cares about is her mental health and her kids, honestly. She wants no part in the case but justice. She's not even in touch with some of her old friends who were responsible for instigating in some cases.' Upon numerous attempts to contact Mandisa, she was unavailable for comment.
