A scorned lover allegedly poured petrol and killed his girlfriend and baby mama of two kids before setting himself alight too- all because the woman broke up with him. Joyce Mahlalela from Tembisa, in the East of Johannesburg, allegedly succumbed to burnt injuries after she had petrol poured on her in her sleep by ex-boyfriend Cullen Nkuna on Wednesday.One of the sons managed to escape while the other is fighting for his life in Tembisa Hospital.
BREAK UP FUELLED THIS
Two neighbours who witnessed everything said that Mahlalela and Nkuna broke up in April. "They broke up early this year because Collen was abusive towards Joyce. His love for Joyce changed and became an obsession. We warned Joyce to move out because they were constantly fighting. I guess she had hopes that Collen would one day change and be a better man. Collins showed his cruelty because he wanted to kill himself and their kids," said the neighbours who wished not to be mentioned.
PEOPLE SCREAMING INSIDE BURNING HOUSE
Another neighbour said that they were already sleeping when they heard the big bang coming from the neighbour's house.
"I was asleep when I suddenly heard the big bang coming from the neighbours house. I woke up and took a look through the window and I saw smoke. We ran outside and we noticed that the house was already engulfed in fire. At the same time, there were screams coming from the house. We tried to break in and by the time we managed to put the fire out, we found Collen, Joyce and their son lying on the floor not moving or talking. They were badly injured," the neighbour said.
MAN AND WOMAN DIE AND CHILD FIGHTS FOR HIS LIFE
On Thursday Collen and Joyce were pronounced dead at the hospital. "We have never seen something like this before and it will take me sometime to heal from what I saw. Collen was not like this and I still wonder what changed him," said the neighbours. Police Spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello confirmed that a 36-year old woman together with her 37-year old boyfriend and their eight year old son burnt inside a backyard room in Mqantsa Section, Tembisa. "Unfortunately the boyfriend and the girlfriend died in hospital while the eight year old is still fighting for his life. The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown at this stage and Tembisa police are investigating a case of Inquest and attempted murder," said Sello.
