Scammer uses gospel singers' number to get money from Thinah Zungu and Khuzani Mpungose

Jumbo has warned people to ignore any requests for money after his phone was hacked

Gospel singer Lwando "Jumbo' Nyangiwe's phone has been hacked. The criminal accessed his phone number and has been asking fellow music industry colleagues and friends for money ranging from R2000 and R10 000.

SCAMMING A MAN OF GOD

Jumbo caught wind of the information after his manager was called by Thinah Zungu and Khuzani Mpungose who were suspicious. "They hacked my phone yesterday. They managed to get R3000 from Khuzani. I don't know who else they have scammed so far but I have warned my followers on social media Jumbo tells ZiMoja. "Criminals have become so clever. I lost access to my number. Khuzani was able to reach me but I reached out to the people I work with. He called the person I was with. I told people on Facebook. The Amandla Okunqoba singer is upset and wants to warn his friends and followers not to give the scammer money. "I know whom I would ask for money and these people know how I speak,' Jumbo says. "I won't just ask any for money. So, I urge everyone to not give out any money to anyone,'

THINA ZUNGU SUSPICIOUS

Thinah tells ZiMoja that he picked up on the scam by the language used in the text messages. "I am very close to Jumbo and the texting was different,' he says. "There are certain names we call each other when we speak and the way he was writing was unlike him. I was not comfortable with the way he was speaking to me, so I thought I should give him a call. He didn't pick up but he would respond to the messages. That is when I knew, something was wrong.' Thinah contacted Jumbo's manager. "Luckily, they were together and I told him the person wanted R2000,' he says "Jumbo would never ask to borrow R2000, it's too small. He would ask for me.' The award-winning artist has since blocked his old number with the service provider.
