The day was supposed to be joyous as family and friends gathered to celebrate the 62nd birthday of twin brothers. But the brothers met their untimely death when the balcony they were leaning onto take a photo on the third floor collapsed on Thursday evening.
IPSS Medical Rescue and IPSS Search and Rescue in KwaZulu Natal confirmed that they responded to a complex in Shakas Rock outside Durban after the collapse of a third story balcony.
BALCONY COLLAPSED
On arrival the teams found that three people had been on the balcony at the time of the collapse and were all in critical condition. "The IPSS Medical advanced life support and medics worked to stabilize the patients. Unfortunately, the condition of two of the patients deteriorated. Despite the best efforts of all on scene, both were declared deceased," IPPS said in a statement.
INTENSIVE CARE
According to the statement the third patient was transported to a nearby facility under the care of IPSS Medical Advanced life support. KZN SAPS Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident. "Umhlali police are investigating an inquest docket after a wall of a balcony reportedly collapsed on three people at Shaka's Rock. Two people aged 62 were declared dead at the scene while the other was taken to hospital for medical attention," she said. Our condolences go out to the friends and family of the deceased.
