“Respect the deceased and his family” - Caiphus Semenya and AKA royalties matter resolved

Caiphus Semenya says he never demanded 50% for royalties from AKA's family

He is not around to answer for himself. Kiernan "AKA' Forbes was reported to have sampled two songs belonging to legendary jazz musician Caiphus Semenya. The reports stated that the Matswale singer and producer was demanding 50% of the royalties for the two songs that were sampled on his two top-selling albums. The songs in question are said to be 'Caiphus Song' on the Touch My Blood project and Diary on the new Mass Country album.

ALL LIES

The veteran artist has finally spoken up regarding reports that he was demanding 50% royalties for two songs that the deceased rapper had sampled without his permission. "It's not true,' he tells ZiMoja. "As I said in a podcast, the matter was resolved. All my publishing is in place. There can never be a song that gets used without the correct channels being followed."

RESPECT THE DEAD

Caiphus started Semenya Music when he was 32 years old and now, he is 89 years old. "I have always had a publisher that manages issues of sampling, royalties, and so forth,' Caiphus says there was never a legal battle between him and AKA. "We need to respect the deceased. I come from a school of respecting the late and showing sympathy towards his family. If there was an issue, I was not going to bring it up at such a crucial time in the family's life.' AKA and celebrity chef Tebello "Tibz' Montsoane were gunned down outside a Durban restaurant on Florida Road on the evening of 10 February. The murderers are still at large, and police are investigating.
