The cast of Queens of Mzansi on SABC 1 is fuming after the channel apparently canned the show without giving any explanation to them. The reality show was introduced to the viewers in August this year. The show features Samkelisiwe Mhlongo, Lucky Mthembu, Paloma (Lolo) Mlunjwana, Siphelele Makhanya, Ntombifuthi Mthembu and Nana Zondi.Cast members who wished not to be named told Zimoja that they were surprised when they saw their show had been replaced.
"It came as a surprised to us that the SABC never said anything to us with regards to the show being cancelled. The least they should have done is to say something to us. I was shocked when I saw our show not being aired on Monday night. It painful when you have to explain to your fans why the show is not on air," said one of the cast members.
PAYMENT WOES
According to the cast they claim that the show was not aired on Monday last week. "Our problems began in October when we raised issue with payment. We were not paid on time and when we complained about our payments we became bad people. They were supposed to inform us that they are cancelling than having to just dump us just like that," said another cast member. They say they shot 26 episodes but they have only aired 10 episodes.
LICENCED FOR 10 EPISODES
SABC's Group Executive for Corporate Affairs and Marketing Gugu Ntuli denied the show was canned. "The SABC can confirm that Kinsman Redeemer Productions was contracted for the licence of 10 episodes of The Queen of Mzansi. The SABC is not in anyway involved in the talent acquisition process of licensed programmes. The SABC can further confirm that all 10 episodes of The Queen of Mzansi were broadcast and the contract therefore reached its full term," she said.
