Popular deejay takes a break from radio to focus on his two babies and acting

Kini Shandu has landed a role on Umkhokha and says he is giving radio a break

Former Gagasi FM radio presenter and actor Kini Shandu is taking a break from radio. Shandu recently bagged another role in Umkhokha- The Curse, where he plays the role of Ndlovu, leading another faction in the church. Shandu has appeared in the SABC drama series Uzalo where he played a role of Shauwn, a lawyer representing Nkunzi Mhlongo

A FOCUSED VIEW

Speaking to ZiMoja, Shandu, the former SABC 1 Daily Thetha host said that he is focusing more on his acting career lately. "When I received a call informing me that I had made it to Umkhokha season 2, I was excited because that is where I want to channel my energy and focus. It's not like I have closed my chapter in radio, radio will forever be my first love but for now I am more focused on my current gig which is Umkhokha," he said.

HIS TWO BABIES

Shandu said there has been some radio offers but he did not take them as they don't meet his standard. "There is never a time or a year where I have never received any offer to go back to radio. The thing is most of those gigs were clashing with my business. I run Nqaba Media and I also have the Sebenza Women's Awards, which is an event I run annually. Those are my two babies and I am not sacrificing them for anything. When I left Daily Thetha I told myself that Nqaba Media must be up and running."

A MEMBER OF THE SHEMBE CHURCH

He says for now, he is happy on Umkhokha and I can relate to their storyline as he is a member of the Shembe Baptist Church. "I don't belong to any faction, I am just a loyal and dedicated member of the Shembe Church. It was easy for me to adapt to my character as I can relate to some of the battles that are tackled in some of the biggest churches in South Africa," he said.
