Police refute claims of AKA killers arrest

Suspects in AKA's murder have reportedly been arrested

The police have refuted claims that they have arrested the killers of award winning artist Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes. The Fella In Versace singer was shot and killed outside Wish club on Florida Road in Durban, KwaZulu Natal alongside his friends Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane in February. AKA's murder was captured on CCTV footage where a man can be seen walking up to the artist and shot him on his head.

POLICE REFUTE ARREST REPORTS

On Monday, reports of three men arrested in Cape Town on Sunday in connection with AKA's murder emerged. The reports alleged that the suspects would be transported to KZN where the crime was committed. KZN police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda could not confirm the reports. "There is no update as yet on the investigations pertaining to the murder of AKA. Police will provide progress in due course," he said.

PROGRESS ON THE CASE

Early this month, police minister Bheki Cele said that there was progress in the murder investigation. Cele told the media that he was receiving daily updates about the progress on the case. "It's a matter that we cannot let rest. Unfortunately, we can't be giving you the blow-by-blow of everything. But the progress is there. There are things I'm not supposed to say, but what I can say is we have collected a lot of cellphones that we're working on and trying to knot things together. That's the last information I received yesterday [Monday] about 10pm on this matter. The progress is there." Cele said at the time. During a media briefing on the release of the third quarter crime statistics last month,  KZN police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said police were busy analysing evidence.
