They were gunned down while walking outside a restaurant in Durban in KwaZulu Natal. Rapper Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes and friend Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane were shot by two unknown men who allegedly approached them from across the road. Its alleged that the two had just had their supper at a restaurant on Florida road in Morningside, Durban when they were murdered.

AKA's FAMILY CONFIRMS HIS DEATH

 AKA's parents, Tony and Lynn Forbes released a statement confirming his death. "It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved son and confirm his untimely and tragic passing on the evening of February 10, 2023. We are awaiting further details from the Durban Police,' the statement reads, "To us, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, most importantly a father to his beloved daughter Kairo. T many, he was AKA, Supamega, Bhova, and the many other names of affection his legion of fans called him by.' The family goes on to say. "Our son was loved, and he gave love in return. In this time of grief, we appeal for your compassion, space, and time to congregate as a family to decide on upcoming days.' The family thanks everyone for the love and support and asks that people continue to keep them in their prayers. 

FRIENDS IN MOURNING 

 Hours before the incident, a close friend says AKA and Tibz were their usual happy selves. "AKA is always full of energy, and Tibz was the same. Nothing was different. AKA was making jokes and we had a great time.' The friends tells ZiMoja they had gone out for supper with friends and the evening was going well. "He was getting ready to go perform at the club; we did not see anything like this ever happening. He was fine, and Tibz was good. They were not sick; they never received any threats.' The friend is waiting for both families before sharing any further details on the friends passing.

POLICE CONFIRMS THE MURDER

KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the murders on Friday night. "They were having supper at a restaurant, and as they were leaving to their vehicle, two unknown gunmen on foot came across the street and opened fire on them. They killed them instantly and no one else was injured. We will be investigating two counts of murder.' Netshiunda said.
