To celebrate Pride month, Orlando Pirates in partnership with their technical sponsor and renowned award-winning fashion designer Rich Mnisi. The Soweto giants first endorsed the Love Unites Pride campaign in 2021. They debuted the kit last month during the Nedbank Cup Final against Sekhukhune United at Lotus Versfeld Stadium in Tshwane.

Their warm-up shirts had bold words written on the front: LOVE UNITES in gay colours embracing the pink community. Pirates did this deliberately to pay homage to Gay Pride Month. June is considered Pride Month around the world after it originated in the USA. When the Pirates beat Sekhukhune United 2-1, the final was held on May 27 - a few days before the start of Pride Month in June. In South Africa, the Gay Pride Month is held annually every October. In SA, pride has been celebrating LGBT pride since 1990 before the birth of democracy four years later. One of the top teams with millions of followers across the continent, Orlando Pirates has been hailed for supporting Gay Pride Month with the message on their shirts.
