One person was injured when a tanker exploded on the N1 near William Nicol highway in Johannesburg. The incident took place just before midday on Friday. Spokesperson for Emer-G-Med Kyle van Reenen of Emer-G-Med said their emergency services personnel and multiple emergency service agencies responded to the scene of a collision involving a tanker at around 11:45am on Friday.
UNCONFIRMED SUBSTANCES
UReenen said on arrival the tanker carrying an unconfirmed substance had exploded and was engulfed in flames. "One person was treated for moderate injuries and taken by Emer-G-Med ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care," he said.

MINI TANKER
According to Arrive Alive the explosion was from a "mini tanker" trailer pulled by a bakkie. "The tanker dislodged, flipped onto N1 north, exploded, its not a gas tanker. Seems very few if any legally compliant dangerous goods placards are displayed on vehicle combinations. Tanker obviously destroyed," AA tweeted. Traffic in the area is severely affected as the freeway remain closed for clean up operations and N1 North after Malibongwe Drive, All lanes closed(traffic diverted at Malibongwe Dr Off-ramp)
BOKSBURG TANKER EXPLOSION
The explosion comes just two months after a gas tanker exploded in Boksburg on Christmas even when a fuel tanker carrying liquified gas exploded underneath a railway bridge in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni. The explosions killed 41 people including health workers from the Tambo Memorial hospital which is 100 meters from where the blast took place.
