The man accused of killing an alleged sex worker appeared briefly at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court. The magistrate told the accused that his matter has been remanded to the 25th of October for further investigation. The suspect hasn't done an ID parade because the person who was supposed to do it on Sunday was at church. The NPA's Phindi Mjonondwane said the suspect had also refused to do an ID parade unless his legal representative was present.
STILL LINKED TO ONE MURDER
Mjonondwane said although the man arrested last week following the discovery of six decomposed bodies he has only been linked and charged with one murder.
"At this stage we are waiting for the postmortem and DNA from the other five bodies. None of them have been positively identified by their families. As soon as we get the go ahead from the families to give out the information, we will do so."
YET TO BE MOVED
Another factor that arose in court is that the accused was still kept in the police cells instead of being transferred to the Johannesburg Central Prison.
Mjonondwane said:" We are aware of this and a letter of transfer was supposed to be sent to the prison but it's our fault that the move hasn't been made. The letter expires in seven days and we've passed that time. We are also humans and make mistakes, however we will rectify this aspect." Mjonondwane emphasised that at this stage, the evidence that they have in the docket only links the accused to one murder, hence he's facing one count of murder.
CLOTHES MATCH DESCRIPTION OF MISSING WOMAN
Gauteng SAPS spokeswoman Brigadier Brenda Muridili, said the grim discovery was made after police were called to the building due to a foul smell coming out of one of the rooms."That is when a body of a woman was found. A preliminary investigation led the police to the suspect, believed to be the last person seen with the deceased woman. It is reported that on 02 October 2022 at 20:00, the suspect was seen with the deceased woman. She was never seen again until her body was discovered on that Sunday morning. The clothes she was wearing match the description of one of the missing persons reported recently."She said upon questioning the suspect, the police went back to the building and five more bodies were discovered outside the building where there is a makeshift workshop and rubbish dumpsters.
ABACIMBIZI COULD NOT SEE SUSPECT
Abacimbizi came out in their numbers with the hope of seeing the suspect but once again that wasn't possible. They demonstrated outside the court with the support of political parties. They said they won't backdown until the suspect gets life imprisonment.
