Nota Baloyi in hot water - again!

Nota Baloyi can't seem to stay out of trouble

It doesn't rain but it pours for social media user Nhlamulo "Nota" Baloyi. After being successfully sued for defamation by DJ Shimza, real name, Ashley Rapala, he's facing another financial hurdle. On October 13, he was served with papers from the sheriff of the court after being ordered to pay Skwatta Kamp member and hip hop artist, Slikour, real name Siyabonga Themba Metane. Nota has to pay Slikour an amount of R26 418.22 for defamation of character.

PAYMENT TO SLIKOUR

Nota was the social media manager of Skwatta Kamp between 2009 to 2012. The relationship between Slikour and Nota soured after Nota wrote negatively about Slikour. Nota was ordered to retract the message he posted on Instagram against Slikour.
In the agreement made in court, Nota said: "I, Nota Baloyi, unequivocally apologise to Slikour for the false accusations and offensive insults made during my interview on @everythhingsamusic's Instagram account entitled #NOTA attacks #Slikour. I acknowledge that the false accusations I made  were not based on facts and were extremely hurtful. I apologise unreservedly for any harm caused to Slikour as a result of these insulting utterances." The order said the retraction had to last for a period of 12 months and should not be deleted. Slikour signed the agreement on 5 October in Sandton, and Nota signed it on October 7 at Dainfern. The sheriff stamped it on October 13, when the payment had to be effected by Nota.

ZAHARA MAY BE NEXT

Even though things look like they have subsided with Slikour, Nota might have another legal battle ahead of him if musician Zahara's recording label have their way. This week, Zimoja learnt that Nota was slapped with a cease and desist letter by Zahara's record label in May and failed to adhere to their demands. In a letter signed by Temi Adeniji, Managing Director of Warner Music Africa, he warned Baloyi to stop writing trash on social media. The letter reads,"Our urgent notice sent to you on 23 May 2022 bears reference. We confirm that you have not acknowledged receipt of our aforementioned notice, nor have you removed the defamatory statements, as demanded. We accordingly reserve our rights to pursue litigious steps against you, without prejudice to our rights to claim damages; pursue any other available legal remedies; and recover our legal and related costs incurred on a punitive basis. We propose that you adhere to our requests urgently, should you be prepared to amicably settle this matter. All our rights remain expressly reserved."
