After a dramatic few week since her nomination for the Grammys, things have simmered down and singer and songwriter Nomcebo Zikode is gearing up for the award ceremony on 5 February 2023. A few weeks ago, the Indlela singer's company revealed that her previous recording label, Open Mic Productions had removed her Grammy-nominated song Bayethe featuring Zakes Bantwini and Wouter Kellerman from Spotify. Nomcebo's management said this would drastically affect her nomination and they are taking legal action. "The take-down notice and the conduct of the respondent as set out below constitute an injurious falsehood, an unlawful and intentional interference with my and the second applicant's contractual and/or property rights and unlawful competition," they said in a statement.
GRAMMY'S, HERE SHE COMES
This has however simmered down and the song is back on Spotify however they tell ZiMoja that they have not as year reached an agreement with Open Mic Productions. "There hasn't been any resolution as yet. But we were able to get the song back up and the courts will rule in due course." The multi-platinum-selling artist is set to compete in the category of Best Global Performance for the song Bayethe. Nomcebo took the world by storm in 2021 with her incredible vocal performance on the record-breaking global hit single Jerusalema by Master KG is honoured to be recognised on the grandest musical stage in the world. "These past few years have been truly incredible," she says. "It feels so surreal that we're now nominated at the premiere music awards show in the world, and we are really in contention for a Grammy award," she adds.
GRATEFUL
Nomcebo cannot contain her excitement and gratitude. "I'm so grateful to my team at IMG Africa and everyone that's helped us get to this point over the years. It's taken a lot of hard work and commitment to our craft for us to get here. The crazy part is we have so much else that we've got planned over the next year or so." Earlier in the week, the Grammy Museum announced that Nomcebo would be performing alongside Zakes Bantwini at the famed museum. "Dive into music from around the world during Grammy Week," they shared on Twitter.
