“Nobody will believe me until I'm dead” ?" Emtee fears for his life after receiving death threats

Rapper Emtee is living in fear

Rapper and father Mthembeni "Emtee' Ndevu is fearing for his life after receiving death threats on his phone from an unknown person trying to extort money from him.

SENSELESS CELEBRITY KILLINGS

Emtee opens up about the threats a few days after the death of rapper Kiernan "AKA' Forbes who was gunned down outside a Durban restaurant on Florida road on the evening of 10 February. AKA was shot and killed outside a restaurant while with friends. Two men walked across the road and fired gunshots at him killing the rapper and former manager Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane.

In the past few months, South Africans have been traumatized by the senseless killings of celebrities. In December, Oupa John Sefoka aka DJ Sumbody was killed in the early hours of Sunday, 20 November after getting shot. The music producer was due to perform at the All-White Veuve Clicquot Picnic when he was gunned down at a traffic light on Woodmead drive with his bodyguard. After DJ Sumbody's murder, Bacardi Music king Vusi Ma R5, real name is Itumeleng Mosoeu was gunned down at a club in Soshanguve in the early hours of Monday, 30 January.

DEATH THREATS

Now, Emtee tells ZiMoja that the person unknown to him has been sending messages threatening he is next after DJ Sumbody. "Somebody is trying to extort me for money that I don't have. He says, I'm next after DJ Sumbody.' Emtee says he doesn't owe anyone money and doesn't know anyone who would want him dead. "I don't talk about it because people are sure that I'm some retard. Nobody will believe me until I'm dead,' he says. "I don't owe anyone money, I'm not a gangster, and I don't gamble." Emtee adds that this is not the first time he is gotten threats. "I first delete the messages and blocked the number, and they continued sending messages with a different number. I am scared, but I know I didn't do anything to anyone. The person want's R25 million, where do I get that kind of money?" he asks. "The guy claims, h funded my career and I asked him If he gave me the cash or what? I've never held that amount of money in my life, suddenly I owe him. Never met him, don't know him. This guy claims he borrowed Kgosi (Ambitious Entertainment boss) R25 million to start the label. So clearly, he's scared of Kgosi, which in this case owes him apparently. He's just undermining me and trying scare me. I told Kgosi. All he did was call the police. I'm not a troublesome person. I'm cool with everyone even Tsibip (Cassper) himself."

LIVING IN FEAR

Emtee is not the first artist to fear for his life. Cassper Nyovest recently opened up to ZiMoja about having to increase his security following DJ Sumbody's death. "It's not safe man. I have been ignorant for a very long time and DJ Sumbody's death woke me and made me realise that we are not safe. His death really f%&ked me up,' he says. "I am always walking around with expensive jewellery I can't afford to put my life at risk and tempt people,' he says. "I also need to remember who I am; I am Cassper Nyovest. I am not just some normal guy who can just walk around freely. I would love to live like that, walk around the streets, and not be recognised, but I am not that guy. Someone made me realise that this is not the way to go, and Sumbody's death made me aware that, I need to be safe and remember who I am. We spend a lot of money on stupid things, so why not invest in security and knowing that wherever I move, I am a bit safer and everything is controlled.'
