Nine bodies of worshippers found at Jukskei River after flash floods

It is believed that about 30 people from a local church were swept away by the floods during their baptism ceremony.

Nine churchgoers have been found dead and an estimated 15 more people are still missing after flash floods on Juksei River washed them away during a baptismal ceremony. ?

THE FLOODS?

After vicious flash floods engulfed the Jukskei River in Alexandra township, parts of Grayston Drive were closed on Saturday to help find the churchgoers who were washed by the floods. The Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) has been on a mission searching for people who were washed away by the flood, following heavy rains. Some of the more than 30 congregants were standing on rocks in the river on Saturday when a torrent of water surged through.?

RECOVERED BODIES?

According to a report by Vision Tactical security, "Specialized Support Units were on the scene following the recovery of bodies in the Jukskei River as a result of the floods.' After precise search missions, two bodies were found, and one woman was rescued alive and getting medical attention.  The Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi tells ZiMoja that it is believed that about 30 people from a local church were swept away by the floods during their baptism ceremony at the river ad added that they are still in search for 15 other missing people. "Search for Alex missing 15 continues this morning along the Jukskei river stream. Two bodies recovered last night and one person was rescued and received medical treatment on-site and later transported to the nearest healthcare facility.'
