Ngizwe Mchunu's trial is set to begin tomorrow. The former Ukhozi FM DJ appeared at the Randburg Magistrates Court today with the hope that his trial would commence. However, things took a bit of a turn when the state handed over new evidence to the defence suggesting they will use it for the trial. The defence had to request for a postponement so that they could go over the new evidence and then further prepare for the trial. The trial will sit for the rest of the week. He faces charges of incitement of violence for the July unrest disaster after former President Jacob Zuma was arrested
LEGAL FEES WOES
In his previous appearance Mchunu told the court that he was a noble citizen and didn't deserve what was happening to him.He reminded the court that he was unemployed and legal fees were weighing heavy on him. "I have a family that comes to support me all the way from Nkandla. They must have petrol and food. I've even had to sell some of my livestock to accommodate this matter," he said. He said it's been a year already and he still doesn't know his fate. "I'm respecting the court. If you arrest me arrest me. If you hang me so be it. I respect the law of the country because It's the only hope we have."
HE COULDN'T WATCH HIS FATHER GO TO JAIL
He said he's an ordinary man who couldn't watch his father "Jacob Zuma" go to jail at his age. "As a poor man from Nkandla, I suffered.Tomorrow, if I won't be able to make it court, there will be problems.I don't know who caused the disaster. After not finding the culprit, they targeted me.Mchunu believes that his arrest was politically motivated and he was made to suffer like this because they couldn't find their original culprit." Lootings and destroying of Infrastructure took place in most parts of KZN and Johannesburg and people claimed it was in support of Zuma. Mchunu has mentioned several times that no 80-year old deserves to be in jail and it wasn't wrong on him to put this out in the public
