?My speech healing is very slow' ? Lira on recovering after her stroke

Singer Lira says she is slowly getting better

Well-known and adored Afro-pop singer Lerato "Lira" Molapo (45) is recovering slowly but surely after suffering a stroke last year. The Ngiyazifela singer has been updating her fans on her recovery process and showing gratitude to those who have been supporting her. "Compliments of the new year! I haven't posted this year. My speech healing is very slow. I'm doing the best I can to remain sane. I'm still alive and well. I wish you great health, prosperity, and love!!"she shared on social media.

FALLING ILL

Lira suffered a stroke after travelling to Germany. In a statement by her management company, they wrote, "To Lira's beloved fans, clients, and associates: As Lira's family, we would like to take this opportunity to share some recent developments regarding Lira's health. Lira recently traveled to Germany for a performance but unfortunately suffered a stroke whilst there. As a result, her ability to communicate, in particular, her speech, has been impacted," the statement reads." According to her team, she has been undergoing treatment here in South Africa, led by the best medical team available. "Her medical team has advised that her journey to recovery will require patience and therefore, it is unlikely that she will be able to perform in the short term. That said, Lira is in good spirits and is surrounded by her loving family and close friends as she journeys toward a full recovery.

A JOURNEY TO RECOVERY

Last year, Lira stepped out in public for the first time after falling ill in April and spent the night dancing in Joburg at the launch of fellow musician Tamara Dey's new single, Disco Therapy. "I went out last night," Lira captioned a video of Tamara's event, followed by a glimpse of herself and Pabi Moli. During the recovery, Lira has kept fans in the loop regarding how she is doing. "Physically, I have been unaffected; I am strong and healthy. The stroke has unfortunately affected my speech."
