One of the most loved and popular South African soap operas Muvhango is reportedly coming to an end in February. According to sources close to the show, this time it’s for good. It’s sad news for fans who have followed the show for years, but the decision was apparently made due to financial reasons.
PROMOTING TSHIVENDA CULTURE AND LANGUAGE
Despite its popularity, Muvhango was reportedly not making any money for the producers. The show has been on air for over two decades, and over the years, it has introduced viewers to a cast of beloved characters. Muvhango has also played a significant role in promoting the Tshivenda language and culture, which is spoken by a significant portion of South Africa’s population. While the show has had its ups and downs over the years, it has remained a firm favorite among many South Africans. Its relatable characters, gripping storylines, and cultural significance have made it a staple of South African television.
MONEY ISSUES
According to source, the soapie had survived because rumours have been swirling about the shutdown. According to another source its creator Duma Ndlovu has used his own money to pay actors in time. "They feel the show is not making business wise," adds the source. "There have been too many issues behind the scenes, but Duma kept the show going because of the fan base," adds the source. Many fans will be disappointed because of the intriguing story line. But it seems that the decision has been made, and the show will come to an end. The soapie producer Duma Ndlovu said when called for comment: "Fuck off". SABC had not responded at the time of publication.
