UMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MK) in Durban intends to embark on a march in the city and take legal action against DA federal council chairperson Helen Zille over alleged racist remarks. The party claims Zille?s comments about KwaZulu-Natal being "thrown to the dogs", if it were to be under the leadership of MK Party and the EFF, to be derogatory.
NOT WHAT I MEANT
However, Zille maintains that her statement was taken out of context and that she meant to convey concerns about the potential consequences if
MK and EFF were to gain power in the province. MK Party organiser Bongani Cele elaborated on Zille?s remarks and said they are viewed it as hate speech.
"We take what was said by Zille as hate speech and there’s no other way we can say this. It has a negative impact on the people and people are talking about it. Being black and called "dogs" by someone you respect in politics is demeaning."
VOTE RIGGING
The March is planned for next week, 17 July, and is not solely about Zille but the IEC but the issue of vote rigging and re-voting as well.
"We didn’t revoke the case, the matter was reported wrongly. At first the case was opened by a collective of political parties but now each party will be opening a case of their own and we are waiting for the documents to be finalised so we can proceed to state our case."
