After spending more than two months searching for their missing daughter, the family of Sindisiwe Ncanana made a shocking discovery. They found her remains buried in shallow grave next to her boyfriend’s shack in Umlazi, Durban in KwaZulu Natal, last Friday.
REPORTED MISSING
Sindisiwe (27) went missing on 8 July, shortly after the burial of her uncle. According to the family, Sindisiwe was fetched by her boyfriend and his father from her family home a week after the funeral. "We were shocked that a father can accompany his son to come into our family home to demand that his son’s girlfriend come with them citing it had been days since they last saw her. We never questioned the motive as we knew that Sindisiwe was madly in love with his boyfriend. Days went by and we never questioned why she was unavailable on her cellphone but we just thought she was in good company of her boyfriend," Sindisiwe’s sister ,Thandeka, said adding that, when they realized that Sindisiwe was not reachable on her cellphone, they questioned her boyfriend who denied knowing her whereabouts. "That is when we decided to report her as missing but they police did not have any leads for two months," she added.
BURIED IN A SHALLOW GRAVE
Thandeka told ZiMoja that they never suspected that something bad might have happened to her. When weeks went by without seeing her sister, she said the family started putting up posters in public places but still nobody knew where she was. "We decided to pay a visit the father and boyfriend as they were the last people to see her. We were surprised to learn that the boyfriend left a day earlier even though he knew we were coming," she said. While at the boyfriend’s family house, Sindisiwe’s family were approached by a neighbour who allegedly told them that they saw the boyfriend digging a hole next to his shack in July. "We decided to investigate and began digging up the same spot where the boyfriend was seen digging and we made a gruesome discovery. My sister was still wearing the same clothes she left our home in, meaning that she was possibly killed the same day she was taken from us," she said. The family said all they want now is justice for Sindisiwe. "Both the father and son have since vanished and nobody knows where they are. We are grateful that we managed to find her body so that we can bury her, " she said. Thandeka said that they never thought that the boyfriend would one day kill their sister as they believed he loved her and wanted a future with her.
INCIDENT CONFIRMED
Ward councillor Sbusiso Cele confirmed the incident. "I was called on Friday to help get the police visit the said family as there was a body that was discovered buried in a shallow grave. I called them and we went to the scene," Cele said. He also said that the father was taken in for questioning but released a day later. "The father has since left the area since the incident and the son is nowhere to be found. Nobody has been arrested in the matter, yet we gave the cops every clue they needed," said the disappointed Cele.
