A man who was given eight months notice to live was afforded a second chance in life after a successful operation.
SUFFERING FROM BLOOD CLOTH
Manqoba Manyathi (32) from Ormonde View in the South of Johannesburg was informed by Charlotte Maxeke Hospital (Johannesburg Hospital) in Gauteng that there was nothing else they can do since he was suffering from a embolism. Manyathi was suffering from embolism which causes the heart and lungs to blocked which leads to starving of blood flow. In order for Manyathi to continue living, the hospital suggested that he must go to Cuba for operation which required him to have R500 000 to cover all the travel and operation costs. ZiMoja published Manyathi?s problem who was ready to meet his ancestors since he did not have the funds but an Non Profit Organisation (NPO) called Hellen Trust Foundation which is based in Cape Town picked up and his story and offered help for free.
FOUR MONTHS IN HOSPITAL
In 1 June 2023, the NPO managed to reach out to Manyathi and he was offered a four months operation trip to the Motherland. "They managed to trace me through my doctor at Charlotte Maxeke. They informed him that there was no need for me to go to CPT since I was struggling with finances for the operation. My doctor told me that they were going to phone when I was going to take a flight to CPT. They had booked flights and arranged a hotel where I was going to stay during the evaluation. "The same day I went to the hospital (Goterskuir Hospital) where I was operated there. I stayed there for four months. They managed to remove the cloth and patched the artery which was making my life hello. I?m grateful to them for what they did for me," he said. Manyathi said that he was very grateful to ZiMoja to have written about his condition. ?I was dying and to be honest without ZiMoja, I had told myself that I?m ready to go and meet my maker. There is no money at home since I?m unemployed and there was no way my family was going to be able to raise R500 000. My life has been restored by now I?m searching for employment to make ends meet. I?m a qualified cameraman and things had not been easy. I have to buy special food to recover quickly," he said.
