A woman was found brutally murdered with her throat slit open by her boyfriend  who wanted to rob her of salary. Iris Mamotlana Mahokare's body from Mahikeng in the North West  was found by sister wrapped in a bed sheets. According to a neighbour Mahokare's problem began when she got promotion at work and became a manager at Ipeleng Clinic in Mahikeng. "She confided in me that she was having problems with her boyfriend who had since changed his behaviour after she got a promotion at work. She said that her boyfriend used to make funny comments about her new role," said the neighbour.

NEIGHBOUR HADN'T SPOKEN TO HER

Mahokare disappeared for two days and the neighbour began suspecting that something may have happened because she had heard the commotion between the couple two days earlier. "Something told me to contact her relative and ask if they had seen her because we normally talk everyday when she comes back from work. There was never a day we didn't talk, it became strange that after her boyfriend's visit and argument she went quiet,"  she said.

SLIT THROAT

NPA Regional Spokesperson Henry Mamothame confirmed the matter. "Schweizer Reneke Magistrates' Court postponed the case against 24-year-old Bongane Gregory Shebi, to Monday 25 October 2022, for a formal bail application.   Shebi is charged for the alleged murder of Iris Mamotlakana Mohokare, at her rented home in Ipeleng township, on 12 October 2022. Her bloodied body was discovered by her sister on 13 October 2022, with her throat cut. She subsequently informed the police, who immediately started investigating.The accused became a person of interest after police received information while doing investigations, that the accused was spotted not far from where the incident took place, walking with bloodied clothes.  

THEY INTENDED TO ROB DECEASED

Mamothame further said that the police then started looking for the accused and ultimately arrested him on 15 October. "Upon arrival at the police station, and according to preliminary police reports, he informed them that he wants to tell the truth. He was subsequently taken in for a confession  and later took the police to point out where he had thrown away the bloodied clothes he was wearing.According to police reports, the accused alleges he was in the company of another person, but the motive only became clear in the accused person's confession, that he and another person intended to rob the deceased. He further alleges he is not the one who stabbed the deceased, but it was the person whom he was with,"  he said Police have indicated that evidence that was obtained at the scene, indicates that only one person was at the scene at the time of the commissioning of this offence. Police investigations on the matter are continuing, while the accused will remain in custody until the next court appearance.
