Makhadzi in trouble with the taxman

Music sensation and chart-topping artist, Makhadzi, has found herself in hot water with the South African Revenue Service (SARS). The top is said to have received a letter from SARS stating that she owes a whopping R6 million in unpaid taxes. Makhadzi, whose real name is Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, shot to fame with her hit song "Matorokisi" and has since become one of the most popular and much sought-after musicians in South Africa and abroad.

OWING SARS MILLIONS

She has won numerous awards for her work, including the Best Female Artist at the 2020 South African Music Awards. After winning the award and seeing her fame rise, she got leverage for charging more money during her performances. However, despite her success, it appears that Makhadzi has failed to keep up with her tax obligations. According to a source close to her, her last return was in 2021 and SARS did estimated assessments for 2019 and 2020. "She currently owes about R6 071914.73. No other returns show outstanding but she will have to submit 2022 and 2023 if she earns other income," adds the source. However, it serves as a reminder that even the most successful individuals are not exempt from their tax obligations. Apart from charging as an individual, Makhadzi uses her private company to charge for music shows.

LEGAL BATTLE WITH HER FORMER BOSSES

On May 11, Zimoja wrote an article where Makhadzi was fighting with her record label, Open Mic Productions. She claimed she was not paid a single cent ever since she signed a three-year deal with them. It emerged that her record label transferred numerous amounts into her business account, dating back to November 19, 2021. Zimoja saw statements of payments of close to R8 million, plus another deposit for R300 000 towards her house.
