Limpopo transgender making waves

Limpopo popular transgender Dinana has opened up about her upcoming sex change. Born William Langa in a small rural area called Bakenberg Mothothwase and raised in Marulaneng outside Mokopane town in Limpopo.

READY TO BECOME A NEW WOMAN

Now, at 36-year-old Afro Pop singer Dinanas is taking her music to the South African market. She signed a distribution deal with one of South Africa music distributors, Content Connect Africa. Due to her unique combination of afro soul, pop and afro jazz music, she has been hailed as Simphiwe Dana of Limpopo She speaks and writes in three South African languages Isixhosa, IsiZulu and her mother tongue Sepedi.

SHE WAS ON JAM ALLEY

Dinanas entertainment journey started in 2005 when she performed on a youth show called Jam Alley. SHe says that is where her mom’s’s then boss Erica Elleh recognised her talent because she was a former Jam Alley presenter and 5fm DJ. Erica Elleh encouraged her family to support her dream of pursuing the entertainment industry. She has made appearances on shows like Muvhango, Scandal, Rhythm City, Generation and Inkaba.

SEX CHANGE JOURNEY

Speaking to ZiMoja , Dinanas who recently completed first phase of her transition said she had always felt like a woman trapped in a male body. "I have always felt like a woman ever since I was born," she explained. Dinanas revealed that she is going all the way with her surgery. "After I finish, I am going to change my private part, but I will not change my birth name," she declared. She said her journey was not as glamorous as it seems. "I’ve been talked about, I’ve been beaten, and there is a lot of prejudice against me, a lot of people show that," she told ZiMoja. Despite that taboo, Dinanas appears to have no shortage of fans and most seem more interested in her music than in her sexuality. Initially her family was not supportive towards her transition but through information they got from the media and TV platforms, they slowly changed their minds. "I am grateful for such platforms, my family was narrow minded but eventually changed their minds and became supportive," she added.

HER FIRST ALBUM WAS A FLOP

Before the Pandemic, she recorded an EP called "Moya" and received loads of followers and praise from the industry for her unique sound and energy. The songs were released with little marketing and airplay due to the pandemic but now with new team and support she is ready for South Africa. I just appeared on the and people are asking when I will come back and release. I want to let them know I’m back and ready to rock them again. Last time when I was busy recording loadshedding disturbed me but now I’m loadshedding free. "Thanks to God, I am very happy, it has taken a while to get here and involved a lot of sacrifice but thanks to God, everything is going well for me," she said. Surprisingly shy for such a flamboyant and raunchy performer.
