KZN POLITICAL KILLINGS SPIRAL OUT OF CONTROL

Zakhele Khuzwayo who is affiliated to the ANC was gunned in his car leading to the suspicion that it was a political hit

The African National Congress (ANC) has called on Police Minister Bheki Cele and chair of the Inter Ministerial Committee (IMC) to urgently probe the spate of political killings in KwaZulu Natal following themurder of Zakhele Khuzwayo in KwaMaphumulo Local Municipality. In a statement that was released by the ANC in KZN, they claim that they have received shocking information detailing circumstances around the brutal murder of Khuzwayo.                                                                                                "To ensure that the murderers and the masterminds behind this barbaric and senseless act do not destroy evidence, we have taken a decision to allow KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi to do his work with his capable team of law enforcement," the statement reads.

SWIFT INTERVENTION NEEDED

The ANC urged Cele to move with speed and investigate this murder and many more. "In as much as the police are investigating political related killing cases and , we have taken a decision as the ANC to call on ANC Deputy Secretary Sipho Hlomuka, in his capacity as the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, to lead a programme focusing on inculcating a culture of political tolerance as one of the critical interventions. We believe that the Provincial Multi Party Oversight Committee on Interventions, which was established in preparation for the elections of 18 May 2011, will play a critical role in intensifying these interventions," the statement reads.It further revealed that the provincial leadership together with the leadership of General Gizenga Mpanza region will visit the family to convey their deepest condolences following this loss, which they deem is too much to internalise.

BRUTAL MURDERS

KZN Policespokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker confirmed that the Maphumulo police were called to a murder scene in the Nothwane area, near Nothweni River, where a 48-year old man was shot and killed whilst in his vehicle. The deceased sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A case of murder has been opened at Maphumulo SAPS for investigation," said Naicker. The death of Khuzwayo follows the latest political killings that have hit KZN. On Sunday an eThekwini Ward 99 ANC councillor Mnqobi Victor Molife was gunned down near Margate, in the South Coast of KZN.The police said that Molife was with his partner in Mvutshini when three armed people forced their way into a room he was in and shot him dead. His partner was unharmed in the attack as the shooters left without taking anything, leading to a suspicion that it was a political hit. A week before the murder of Molife, Inkatha Freedom Party Siyanda Magubane from Umsinga ward 11 was shot dead.
