Wherever you saw Sizwe Shongwe, his friend would always be by his side. This has been the case with the two friends since their primary school days. But there was just one line never to be crossed and dating each other's siblings. Shongwe did not only fall in love with the friend's sister, but he also impregnated her. This infuriated the friend so much that he was ready to kill.

IMPREGNATING A FRIEND'S SISTER

Shongwe from Umlazi township, south of Durban, KwaZulu Natal was shot and killed allegedly by his friend after he found out he had impregnated his younger sister. Shongwe's uncle S'phamandla Ngiba told ZiMoja that the young woman was still traumatised by what her older brother did. "This is the most disturbing moment for both families. Shongwe, the guy and I grew up together. it pains me deeply that he did not approach me about the relationship my nephew had with his sister. This could have been resolved by the two families," Ngiba said. The sister is currently seven months pregnant and Ngiba said his nephew was prepared to do right by his child and that he had been supportive towards the soon-to-be mother. "He bought everything for the baby and the mother, he was never going to neglect his responsibility,' Ngiba said adding that it was sad that the young woman will have to raise the baby all by herself just because her brother could not accept the relationship.

SHOT IN FRONT OF HIS PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND

Ngiba said that he was with Shongwe on Saturday before he left him to meet his clients. He said that his nephew had earlier received a call from his pregnant girlfriend who was she was craving take out. "He did tell me that he was going to buy the take away and take it to his girlfriend, not knowing that this would be the last thing he will ever do for the love of his life,' he added. "I was surprised to receive a call from my relatives informing me that Sizwe was shot dead by his best friend,  the brother of his girlfriend. I immediately drove to the scene where I found him dead at the girlfriend's gate,' he added. According to Mgiba, the girlfriend's clothes were soaked in blood as she said she held him after he was shot begging him not to die. "Sizwe died in the hands of his girlfriend,'

CROSSING THE LINE

According to the uncle, when Sizwe was first shot, he managed to run away but returned by the gate to understand why his friend shot him. "Thats when the friend told him he crossed the line by dating his sister and that he made things worse by impregnating her. He also said he felt disrespected by Sizwe for impregnating his sister and shot him again. He died by the gate as he was trying to run away from the gun wielding friend,' the uncle added. "The woman is still traumatised by this whole thing, and we are trying our best to be there for her. We do not know what will happen to their relationship as they are siblings, it is bad. It is even worse because the child now must grow up without a father," he added. KZN SAPS spokesperson Robert Netshiunde confirmed the incident. "Police in Umlazi are investigating a case of murder following an incident in which a 28-year-old man was fatally wounded, allegedly by the brother of his pregnant friend on Sdeku Hadebe Road in Umlazi F Section on Saturday evening. The incident is reported to have happened in front of the girlfriend. The motive of the killing is part of police's investigations," he said.
