Controversial businessman and Patriotic Alliance (PA) Deputy president Kenny Kunene have been sworn in as the Mayoral Member of the Committee in the Transport portfolio at the City of Johannesburg.

FRAUD CONVICTION

Kunene spent more than 5-years in jail in 1997 after he was convicted for fraud with his friend and party president Gayton McKenzie after they were accused of running a ponzi scheme in the Free State. After being sworn in Kunene said that device delivery will be his priority. "Citizens of Johannesburg must not worry about my criminal record, the public purse is in good hands as service delivery is my priority. As long as we work together, we shall achieve," he said. ANC's Dada Morero was sworn in as mayor of Johannesburg in 2022 after ousting Phalatse illegally. Kunene who is famously known as Sushi King for eating sushi off naked women was sworn in with Economic Freedom Fighter Ennie Makhafola who will head the Health and Social Development portfolio. Two more positions in the Transport portfolio in Johannesburg are yet to be filled. 

NEW ADMINISTRATION

Kunene will form part of the administration that is led by Thapelo Ahmed who was recently voted to become the new City of Johannesburg mayor. Other people that were sworn in where are Group Corporate and Shared Services Loyiso Masuku, Environmental and Infrastructure Jack Details, Public Safety Sepetlele Raseruthe, Economic Development Nomoya Daphney Know I, Housing Anthea Natasha Leitch and Community Development Lubabalo Magwetshu.
