South Africa is still in shock after The South African Police service confirmed the death of rapper and father Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes and his long-time friend Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane who were shot outside a Durban restaurant on Saturday evening. AKA's parents went on to also share their heartbreak at the loss of their son.
SADDENED BY KIERNAN'S DEATH
Moses Tembe, the father of AKA's late fiancé, Anele 'Nelli' Tembe who died in April 2021 after falling from the 10th floor at The Pepperclub Hotel in Loop Street Cape Town has since shared his message of condolences and expressed his grief. "It is with the deepest shock that we've learned of the passing of Kiernan. As a parent, I feel deep pain for Forbes' parents Tony and Lynn, his daughter Kairo and the extended family,' he shared in a statement. "Kiernan was an extraordinarily talented musician. His music contributed meaningfully to South Africa's rich musical tapestry. We extend our condolences to his extended family and his fans. I and my family appeal to the public to show compassion and give the family space, time, and respect on all platforms.'
LOSING NELLI
After Nelli's death in 2021, the grief-stricken father shared his speech at the funeral of his daughter, which was read by a family member. "I cannot allow an unfortunate narrative to go unchallenged, a narrative that irks me to no end ... that is 'Anele was chronically suicidal'. All I can say is until Anele turned 21, not a single member of her family, my family would have associated her with suicide.' Moses went on to say that he was happy for Nelli and Kiernan and suggested they go for premarital counselling. "I knew Kiernan loved my daughter but their companionship needed more than love. It had to be premised and embedded on a Godly foundation.' In a recent interview, AKA spoke about the loss of his girlfriend Nelli and wanting justice. "When she took her own life, she took a part of me with her. That's how God works. Whatever happened, happened. But God is graceful. Now I have got an amazing woman in my life, who picked me up, rebuild me, and re-energised me. I made a lot of mistakes, it's a tragedy. I wish justice for her family and my family. Where's my justice.'
