He is recovering after getting a black eye and three deep cuts on his arm. This is after an unknown man came at musician and producer Bongani Fassie with a panga while driving in Randburg, Johannesburg a few days ago.

THE GRUESOME ATTACK

He believes there is a target on his life and someone wants to see him dead. Award-winning musician and son of late veteran singer Brenda Fassie tells ZiMoja that he was attacked by a man in a hoodie at a traffic light in Randburg, Johannesburg. "I don't know who the man is. I just saw him come at me with a panga. I was driving with a friend with my window down,' he says. "The guy was aiming for my chest but I grabbed him, tried to disarm him and he butchered my arm,' he adds. "He cut me but I continued to fight.' 

FEARING FOR HIS LIFE

Bongani fears for his life and describes the gruesome attack as "a planned assassination.' He believes someone is out to kill him. "Of course, someone wants me dead,' he says. "I first received a message saying, it should have been me who died instead of AKA,' he says. This is not the first time that he is being attacked. "I was attacked twice about over a year ago. But I don't wish to play the moments back,' he says. " I am not okay. I almost died. I am just glad to have lived to tell the tail. I will not lie, I am scared for my life, and I don't know who to suspect at the moment. All I am doing is focusing on my healing and recovery.' 

SENSELESS KILLINGS

Crime and senseless murders have plagued the South African music industry. Recently rapper Kiernan "AKA' Forbes and celebrity chef Tebello "Tibz Montsoane were gunned down outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban. Before that, Pretoria DJ Sumbody, real name Oupa John Sefoka was shot in a hail of bullets on his way from a gig. Weeks ago, musician Vusi Ma R5 was gunned down outside Legentsheng in Soshanguve. In 2022, Sandile Mkhize, known as DJ Citi Lyts who is the brother of late rapper ProKid was shot dead on Valentine's Day last year at the age of 32. The same year, actor Siyanda Sesimani was injured during a house break-in and was in a coma for weeks before his death. A few weeks ago, rapper Mthembeni "Emtee' Ndevu told ZiMoja that he was fearing for his life after receiving death threats on his phone from an unknown person trying to extort money from him. "Somebody is trying to extort money that I don't have. I'm next after DJSumbody.' Emtee says he doesn't owe anyone money and doesn't know anyone who would want him dead. "I don't talk about it because people are sure that I'm some retard. Nobody will believe me until I'm dead,' he says. "I don't owe anyone money, I'm not a gangster, and I don't gamble." Emtee adds that this is not the first time he received threats. "I first deleted the messages and blocked the number, and they continued sending messages with a different number. I am scared, but I know I didn't do anything to anyone. The person want's R25 million, where do I get that kind of money?" he asks. "The guy claims, he funded my career and I asked him If he gave me the cash or what? I've never held that amount of money in my life, and suddenly I owe him. Never met him, don't know him. This guy claims he borrowed Kgosi (Ambitiouz Entertainment boss) R25 million to start the label. So clearly, he's scared of Kgosi, who in this case owes him apparently. He's just undermining me and trying scare me. I told Kgosi. All he did was call the police. I'm not a troublesome person. I'm cool with everyone even Tsibip (Cassper) himself."
