Exams are around the corner and some are already in progress. This time can be stressful and nerve-wrecking for parents and especially, the children. A parent's role is critical in making sure your child makes it. Here are some tips on how you can support your child:
Help them to create a practical schedule
Help your child to create a study schedule that includes daily and weekly study sessions. This should be based on the times they prefer to study. Make sure there are breaks in between days to help regain strength and refresh their minds. Guide them but also allow them to determine their schedule according to their schedules.
Encourage healthy eating habits and exercise
A good diet may seem like it does not affect your child, but physical well-being is as equally important as mental well-being. Healthy food will give your child energy. Junk food can make them tired and sluggish. Drink lots of water for energy and get regular sleep and some form of exercise, even if it is going for a stretch or a walk.
Avoid Overworking them
During the final exams, the children usually have a lot of schoolwork to do. Try not to overwork your child with house chores. Take the load off them but also do not completely remove some chores, as these may be a break away from books. Create a good balance between school, chores and rest.
Ensure Your Child Gets Enough Rest
Rest is as important as studying, eating well, and exercising. Help your child by ensuring they rest to avoid a mental breakdown or fatigue. Studying can be overwhelming, remind your child that it is okay to take a break, watch tv or go for a walk or visit a friend.
Encourage Your Child and manage your anxiety
Being a pillar of strength is not an easy task. You need as much rest as they do, and practice relaxation to be able to keep them motivated. Every learner deserves to have someone that believes in them. Do not be too harsh, lend an ear when they need it and remind them that they can achieve anything they set their mind at.
