Veteran singer, actress, entrepreneur, and humanitarian, Yvonne Chaka Chaka has done it again. The Princess of Africa has been awarded a degree of Horris Causa, Doctor of Performing Arts from the Tshwane University of Technology.

AN HONOUR

Previously, she received an honorary degrees from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2012 and Rhodes University in 2018. As though this is her first time, she is as excited to be handed her third by the Tshwane University of Technology Registrar, Micheal Mushaathoni. Chaka Chaka tells ZiMoja that it is only an honour to be acknowledged yet again for her contribution to the performing arts. "Being appreciated while I am still alive means a lot to me.' The internationally artist says she wishes her mom who has long passed was here to witness the merit. "For me, this is a very special moment and I wish my mom was here to witness it. This is my third honorary doctorate degree, and I am so much under pressure to continue furthering my studies.'

BACK TO SCHOOL

The Umqombothi singer is currently in the process of completing her Post Graduate degree at Henley Business School. She chooses not to force people to use the title of Doctor until she has fully earned it through her studies. "I appreciate and respect the honour. But I only prefer to be called Yvonne Chaka Chaka Maybe after my post-grad graduation. It is just to also give respect to those who went to school to earn it. It does not take away anything from those who also earned it through hard work and being on the ground, like myself.' Yvonne recently hosted her successful Backing Vocalists and Session Musicians Awards (BVSMA) for those who have played an integral part in the value system of the music industry.
