Authorities have come under fire following the discovery that the Facebook rapist and murderer Thabo Bester has no South African identity document. Home Affairs has said they don't have any records of his birth.
POLICE INSIST HE IS FROM MZANSI
However, the police are confident that the the convicted rapist is a South Africa. On Thursday, Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola told members of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services that the police identified Bester by his fingerprints and past crimes he committed in the country. Masemola said Bester's identity was verified by Tanzanian authorities through fingerprints and they also had the prints on their records. He said there are two other Thabo Bester whom the convict shares his identity with. "This person does not have an identity document, so the criminal records were the only way to confirm it is indeed Bester. He is a South African. The person who served at the Mangaung Correctional Services Centre is the same person the Tanzanian authorities arrested. When he arrived here, we also ran fingerprints. He is a South African. He is Thabo Bester."
COURT APPEARANCE
Bester will be appearing at the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court later today. Bester escaped from Mangaung Maximum Prison in May 2022 allegedly with the help of a few people including his lover Dr Nandipha Magudumana, her father Zolile Sekeleni and prison warders who have all been arrested. He was finally caught in Tanzania last week heading to the Kenyan border and brought back to Mzansi on yesterday morning.
