She hasn't been in a committed relationship ever since her highly publicized divorce in 2014. But Sonia Mbele has moved on from there, picked up the pieces and found love again. The actress, producer, and mom says it feels good to be loved again. The Real Housewives of Johannesburg producer has found love in the arms of a Ghanaian man living in the US. They met during one of her travels and it was love at first site.
FINDING HERSELF
Through the years, Sonia has opened up about battling with depression and how after her divorce and she had to rebuild her life from scratch. "It took me self-love, acceptance, and a lot of prayers to be able to deal with some of the internal battles I faced,' she tells Zimoja. "Divorce is almost like something is being taken from your soul.So, I had to find myself again, learn to love myself and the person that I am again,' she says. "It took a lot, but I am grateful for the woman that I have become and the lessons, I have learned along the way.'
FINDING LOVE
With finding herself, Sonia has also learned to trust others. On a trip to Ghana in 2019, she found love again after many years. Sonia, met her man during the Afrochella Festival around December. "It was love at first sight for him. He didn't know she was a celebrity back home; he was this well-mannered guy living in the US who came for a music concert,' says a friend. "The guy was smitten. They have been dating since 2019 and she is always in the US or he comes to the country.'
LEARNING TO LOVE AGAIN
Sonia tells Zimoja that she likes to keep her love life a secret and protect those close to her. Whoever told you about my love life must know how happy I am,' she says. "Yes, I am in a long-distance relationship. My man is based in New York.' Sonia says she has kept the relationship private to protect herself. "I have been burned and I prefer to keep my love life away from the brand Sonia. It's taken me a few years to understand that I need to protect the things that are important to me. All I can say is that he loves me more than I love him, which is very important to me. I have been through my fair share of hurt and have protected my heart for the longest time. Now it's time to let go,' she adds. "I have learned that it's important to enjoy being loved and enjoy someone who appreciates me for who I am. He doesn't know that back home, I'm called Ntombi and he doesn't care about what I do for a living, he genuinely loves me for who I am,' she adds. "Love is a beautiful thing. I enjoy dating, having fun and having the small things in life,' she says. Sonia will be travelling to NewYork soon to visit her new love. She plans to see her man this month and spend the holiday season with him.
"I am always traveling. I see him almost every month or every second month.Long-distance relationships can be tricky but we make it work. We have been doing great since 2019,' she gushes.
