Former The Queen actress, Lorraine Moropa has landed a big role in the biopic about kwaito superstar Mandoza. Lorraine will play the wife of the the late icon, Mpho Tshabalala in the BET Africa production that will bring back Mandoza's life to the small screen. Mandoza, real name Edmund Mduduzi Tshabalala, was married to Mpho and the couple had three children, Tokollo, Tumelo and Karabo. The Nkalakatha and Godoba hit maker died on September 18, 2016, after a struggle with pharyngeal cancer.
PRODUCER'S FIRST CHOICE
According to sources close to the production, Lorraine was asked to audition and killed the role, and she became the producer's first choice. "She embodies Mpho's character so perfectly and she tapped into her role, and I am sure Mpho will be proud of her,' adds the source. Another source says Mpho was thrilled when she heard that Lorraine will be playing her. "Mpho was quite impressed that the picked a talented actress who is not chasing popularity,' The biopic shooting was completed on Saturday.
SURVIVING A STROKE
Mpho had her fair share of a health scare when she was attacked by a stroke t the age of 30. She had to learn to walk and talk again. These are some of the scenes that Lorraine must play act in the movie, apart from enjoying five-star lifestyle alongside Mandoza in the peak of his music career. Mpho and Mandoza started dating in 1998 when the singer was still part of the kwaito group, Chiskop. They got married traditionally in 2002 and sealed their union with a white wedding in January 2008. The award-winning muso, Mandoza's best man was fellow kwaito star, Kabelo Mabalane.
GETTING INTOM CHARACTER
In the movie, Lorraine will deal with the girlfriend drama that Mpho had to deal with when Mandoza was at a peak of his career and being booked across the country. This was due to his crossover appeal with songs like Nkalakatha, which was infused with a rock guitar, produced by Gabi le Roux. Mandoza will be played by Wiseman Mncube, who has starred in Uzalo, The Wife and Ehostela. The 6-part mini-series tittled Life of Mandoza will be produced by Endemol.
