Mourners have gathered in large numbers to attend the memorial service of award winning rapper Kiernan 'AKA Forbes this afternoon. AKA was gunned down alongside his former manager Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane last week on Friday , outside Wish restaurant on Florida Road in Durban, KwaZulu Natal.
CHAOS
There was chaos as fans and some celebrities struggled to get access into the venue as the security was very tight. AKA's family had earlier in the week made 1500 tickets available for the memorial service with 500 reserved for industry friends. Fans with no tickets sang and danced outside the venue while they waited for the memorial service to start. Some media houses were also turned away as they had sent more than one journalist to cover the memorial service.
SECURITY
There was tight private security at all doors at the centre. No one without a tag was allowed inside while metro police cars were seen lined up outside the venue.SAPS and Metro cops are everywhere around the precinct.
SHOCKED
Speaking to ZiMoja before the memorial, legendary artist Mdu Masilela said that he was still shocked by the barbaric way AKA was killed. "The people who killed AKA did not only hurt his family or his fans. They hurt many people because not only was he an artist. He was representing South Africa globally. AKA was an international artist who was bringing in international tourists to come watch his performances. His death will go down as one of the worst I have ever seen. I am still shaking whenever I think about the video clips showing that animal killing AKA. That was barbaric and the government must do something to make sure that illegal firearms are taken off our streets," said the Chomi Ya Bana hitmaker.
NOTABLE FIGURES
Some of the celebrities and high profile people seen at the memorial service are former Uzalo actor Ntokozo Dlamini, Soweto activist Nhlanhla Lux, Laduma Ngxokolo of MaXhosa Clothing, ANC Gauteng Treasury Thembinkosi Nciza, artists Tresor, Shekhinah, Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and Blue Mbombo. The Fela In Versace hitmaker is the third artist to be gunned down in the last three months following the murder of DJ Sumbody, who was brutally murdered on his way to a gig in November last year and Vusi R5 who was murdered a few weeks ago after performing at an event.
