All she ever wanted was to be loved and live happily ever after. Amogelang Modiselle (30) from Ga-Rankuwa, outside Pretoria, thought she found her forever in a convict who was serving time for killing his father.

HE WAS OUT ON PAROLE

Five months later, Amogelang has been killed and the man she thought she would spend the rest of her life with is behind bars charged with her murder- again. The man was released on parole after spending years behind bars and lived with Amogelang and her children at her house. This is when her ordeal started. According to Amogelang’s older brother, Gilbert Modiselle, the convict started abusing his sister physically.

STRANGLED TO DEATH

On Saturday morning, Amogelang had an argument with her boyfriend, who allegedly strangled her to death before fleeing the scene. Modiselle told ZiMoja that the family was in pain about what happened to his sister. "This is the saddest moment of our lives. Amogelang loved her family and kids. We were very close and not long ago she called and told me that the man she thought was loving and caring was a monster. She told me that their relationship was not as good as it looked from the outside and that she wanted to kick the man out of her house because he was physically abusing her," Modiselle said.

"I regret not coming sooner to help her out of that misery. I had planned to come and see the guy because of the allegations of physical abuse. When Amo informed me about the abuse, I called the guy and asked to meet him so that we could talk man to man. To my surprise, the man told me that he had no intentions of meeting up with me. I should have done better to save my sister from that monster," he said.

FAMILY DID NOT APPROVE OF THE RELATIONSHIP

He said that the family never approved of the relationship, even when the man was still behind bars. "We could not understand why Amogelang loved a man who killed his own father. We tried warning her, but she was in love," he added. Modiselle said that the only thing that is left for him to do now is to take care of Amogelang’s kids, aged 4 and 12. Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said a 46-year-old man was arrested at his hiding place in North West Province on Sunday after he allegedly killed his partner in Ga-Rankuwa on Saturday. "Police were called to a house in Ga-Rankuwa Unit 6 on Sunday. Upon arrival at the scene, they found a female who was already declared dead by the paramedics," he said. Masondo said the police investigation led to the arrest of the suspect the following day. "The suspect was charged with murder and he appeared before the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrates Court on Wednesday," he said.
