The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) want President Cyril Ramaphosa to take full responsibility for the failure of Eskom which has resulted in constant stage 6 load shedding.
MEETING WITH OPPOSITION
Ramaphosa met virtually with opposition parties on Sunday evening to discuss the power crisis in the country. Most opposition leaders couldn't attend the meeting because of loadshedding. The DA's John Steenhuisen said he couldn't attend because he had loadshedding and his Wi-Fi doesn't work without electricity. ACDP's Kenneth Meshoe said the same thing. PAC president Mzwanele Nyhontso who attended the meeting said it felt like a "tick box exercise". "There was nothing new, it was the same stuff we heard last year and what has been in the news. There was no need for that meeting. It was a repeat of the things they say everyday in press statements." He said.
LOAD SHEDDING GOING NOWHERE
In a statement the EFF said the current leadership of the Eskom board and the outgoing CEO categorically stated that even within 24months, there is no guarantee that the available energy factor will be restored above 60% above South Africa's generational capacity. Malema said he welcomed the resignation of Andre De Ruyter as Eskom CEO and specifically asked the board and the management of the power utility as to what they did to stop the loadshedding the whole of South Africa on the 25th of December 2022, which cannot be done everyday,"
RAMAPHOSA MUST RESIGN
The EFF called for the immediate resignation of Ramaphosa and to allow the people of South Africa to come up with a solution to the Eskom crisis. "The second person who must resign is Ramaphosa because he had repeatedly and perennially failed to provide electricity to the people of South Africa," the statement reads. The EFF also said that the problems of electricity supply in South Africa were man-made by people who want to destroy Eskom so that they can privately generate electricity for their own greedy capitalist interests. "The people of South Africa must now know that the power is fully within them to liberate themselves from an incompetent and directionless government. What we can state without fear of contradiction is that the current political leadership, the Eskom board and management have no capacity and willingness to solve the problem of load shedding and electricity," the statement reads.
